Burning Tears
I've been sitting in front of this computer for about an hour trying to read a mere four pages to answer questions for my AP Euro homework. I went to sleep around 4 a.m. this morning, so I'm having a hard time keeping my eyes open. But even if I could keep my eyes open, my reading would be constantly disrupted by my excessant yawning.
The constant yawning made me think about why yawning seems to be contagious. More often than not, I yawn after I see someone else yawn. Is it a psychological thing embedded into our minds for so long that it eventually became a truth? My mom told me it was contagious when I was younger, and I damn right believed her. I mean, if you can't believe your mom at that age, then who else can you trust? The one thing she could never explain though, is why we tear when we yawn. I think it's safe to say that I tear every single time I yawn. The only thing is that the flow of tears aren't consisant. But the point is.. WHY DO WE TEAR? More importantly, why do my tears freaking burn like crazy sometimes? It'd be fine and dandy if tears were simply water, but my tears are kind of salty too. When I'm crying and screaming at my parents, I taste the tears.. so I have first hand experience of the taste to tears.
I remember back in fifth grade.. there was this one time where I cried so much that my face got all dry and scaly. Don't picture the extreme; my nose and the area surrounding my nose was a bit peely, but that's it! It was so dry though that my skin felt too stiff to move my face. I had to apply shitloads of moisturizer. I got pretty sidetracked there, but I still would like to know why my tears burn sometimes. -__-- My face is actually kind of dry now.

I know what you mean when you say your face got all "dry and scaly." I used to cry (almost) on a daily basis when I was 4 or 5. My grandparents would always try to scare me by telling me that I'm going to run out of tears and my eyes would dry up like raisins. I believed them, but the thought of raisins for eyes just made me cry some more. I wasn't very fond of dried, wrinkly fruits.
Anyway, I think I am more likely to tear as I yawn when I am trying to suppress the yawn. I still believe that yawns are contagious!
haha damn my grandma told me that yawns are contagious too... it's strange i dunno why either. also, i remember i tried looking up why we tear when we yawn when i was like 9, but i don't think i ever found the answer..
