Despite learning time and time again that nature predisposes many human traits, I'm not willing to believe that my parents don't really have that great of an impact on my personality! Essentially, my psych book says that nature determines your personality and your parents and environment (the nurture part) affects your religious beliefs and morals. I'm not sure why, but I've always linked my beliefs with my personality. Apparently, your personality consists of all your inborn traits like your temperament. But the way I see it, when you get angry, it's because of something. That something is usually an outside force right? I'd like to think that I get angry not because of myself, but because of outside forces. BUT IT'S NOT TRUE! I'm short tempered because of my genes! I can't help it guys! I'm anal because I'm predisposed to be like this!
okay this post actually got interrupted, but I'd like to continue.
Psych is getting really interesting this semester. We're learning things that we can apply to ourselves. Although analyzing myself is just a smidge more than horrifying, I think it's worth doing.
Twins are genetically identical (or nearly) so they have similiar personalities. I've never been friends with twins, but I'm friends with a twin. TV totally gives us the wrong impression of twins. In Sister Sister, Tia and Tamera are polar opposites. Tia is neat, smart, and probably a little OCDish whereas Tamera is a slob that doesn't try very hard in school. From what I'm interpreting in my psych book, that's unlikely if they're identical twins. Drives such as neatness are inborn (I think) so Tia and Tamera should actually be similar in that aspect. Oh crap. Are the identical twins? If they're fraternal, then the opposites thing is right on. Fraternal twins aren't more similar in personality than regular brothers and sisters. Again, I have to stress that personality is not the same as your beliefs. Families tend to share the same political and religious beliefs, so it may seem as though their personalities are similar.
This stuff is so fun to learn about. The psych book talks about twins who were separated at birth and reunited when they were in their thirties. The cool part is that they were so freaking similar. Both were a little overweight, and both had kids named James! Except one kid was named James Alan while the other twin's son was named James Allan. I thought that was the coolest thing in the world. I think that supposed twin telepathic connection isn't really telepathy, but rather the natural course of the twins's brain. I didn't explain that well, but what I mean is, if their brains are the same (pretty much) then it's natural for one twin to think something, and then the other think of it at the same time or sometime around that time.
This post was completely pointless and unrelated to me. I think it's so cool though! I love psych. Before taking the class, I thought psych was like all therapy stuff, but now, with all this new knowledge about the field, I'm even more interested in psychology! What kinds of job would I be able to find with a psychology degree?
