I'm going to let you guys know now that I'll probably be cynical as hell for the next couple of weeks, so if you don't want to read it, come back in half a month or so.
Once again, today sucked. The school portion was draining and the afterschool stuff was hell. We, as in Jack, Emily, Leong, and I went to James Lick Middle School to do allies training. I freaking told them three that the middle schoolers would be stupid, but they didn't listen. We prepared a much too sophisticated presentation, and it turns out that they didn't even know wth heterosexual meant. GREAT. Damn you guys for not listening to me. I told your asses that I didn't know jack shit when I was that age, but nooooooo they never listen to me.
The kids were ghetto as hell and I'm sure they're all pretty homophobic except for the two white girls that appeared to be the only smart ones in that room. I can categorize the kids into four categories. 1. The timid little protected kids that were afraid to talk about homosexuality. 2. The smart white boys and girls whose parents are obviously very open about this shit. 3. The "I don't give a shit black girls" that you can tell are hella smart. 4. The "I think everything is a joke" kids that just raise their hands for attention. Good intentions, but they took up hella time.
I'm really disappointed in myself. I was really nervous, and I kind of let Emily and Jack take over. There was even a moment when Emily and Jack were arguing about transgender and what falls under that category, which made us seem totally unprepared. I know the kids can't really tell the difference, but Leong was there, and the teacher sponser was there. I felt embarassed as hell, and I just wasn't into it. I'm hella pissed off that they didn't listen to me, and that I was right all along. YOU NEED TO PRETEND LIKE THEY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING. There's a big gap between Middle School students and High School students. It's easier to pretend like they don't know anything because at least everything is clear to them.
I've been getting headaches at around 3 or 4 pm every day this week. -_-
