My friend's grandfather recently passed away. I feel guilty because I rarely have the time to speak to her anymore, thus making it harder for me to console her. First, I questioned the quality of my character as a friend, then realized that the reason I wouldn't be able to express my condolances is that I was just a little kid when someone in my family died. Death just didn't have a big impact on me as a child. I don't by any means wish that a member of my family will pass away soon, but it feels horrible to not understand the feeling. I'm afraid to say the wrong things and cause her to feel even more pain.
Growing old doesn't suck because you're getting closer to your own death, but because it means that your loved ones are growing older as well.
