Can you take criticism?

Lately, I've been assigned a lot of writting assignments that require proof reading and/or editing. Because of Hathwell's class, I'm a really nit-picky editor and I always have the urge to revamp another person's essay. However, unlike Hathwell's class, where almost everyone at least considers your suggestions, the people in my current English class do not willingly welcome critcism. With my APUSH project, too, it's really hard to tell someone that they need to be more thorough with their analysis when they think that their work is already enough.

It makes me wonder how well I take criticism. Honestly, I don't think I'm prideful enough to not listen to what others have to say about my work. I try to be open to criticism because there's always room for improvement, right?

It boggles my mind how some people just don't want to hear constructive criticism. I normally take the compliment, then suggest approach when I'm actually trying to offer constructive criticism, but I'm discovering more and more people that just hate to hear that their work isn't perfect. I'm sorry, but if they are that perfect, why don't they ALWAYS get near perfect scores on written works such as essays?!

Get a bad grade and listen to suggestions. That's how I work. I love specific criticism! I think the fact that I'm being criticized causes me to be more concious of the areas which I'm prone to make mistakes.

But there is a fine line between helpful criticism and straight up mean comments. I guess criticizing is a tricky thing to do; it requires tactful approaches and careful word choice.

The point of this entry? It's really annoying when people are too prideful to see that they need improvements, too. You'll become a better person if you're open to constructive criticism

or you'll just do what everyone else thinks you should. they don't get good scores because teachers are biased. duh. just because a paper isn't "long enough" or they "can't read it" tch.
