The Framed Poem

There's a framed poem that hangs on the wall behind my monitor. It was a gift from Connie and Stephy for our 8th grade graduation. I keep it hanging there as a reminder of how naive we were back then to think that we would all remain good friends forever. None of us hate each other, none of us are enemies, but none of us are also good friends with all of each other anymore either. Every year of separation has made it harder and harder to go back to old friendships and I believe that one day, the friendship will simply disappear because of the lack of effort from both sides. In some ways, it's worse than hating each other because when you hate someone, you at least remember them, instead of letting them fade into the background, away from existance.

The poem also serves to remind me how wonderful ignorance was when we were younger. Not knowing didn't kill us back then, and we were able to live without serious worries. The poem also represents optimism that I want to have once again even though it's obviously unreachable.

I haven't collected any sentimental items since middle school. Highschool isn't memorable in that sense, I guess. Although I just bashed the framed poem, it's one of my favorite memories from middle school. It epitomizes so much that I miss from that time of my life.
