Vicarism & Obsession
I realize now that because of television, movies, and books, I've become the reclusive sort of person who has no life of her own and lives each day to watch, listen, or read stories of other people and live vicariously through them.
As I've probably mentioned many times before, I always always engross myself in things that I like. If I stumble upon a good book, I'll read the entire thing within a few days. If I happen to watch a show on tv mid-season, I'll find a way to catch up on the storyline and watch the entire season within a day or two. I do everything with a lot of enthusiasm and almost an obsessive drive as long as I like it. I don't mind repetition at all as long as, for that moment, I want to do it.
But after that initial enthusiasm dies down, it's very hard for me to interest myself in that previous obsession. The novelty wears off, and I just can interest myself in that particular thing.
It can't be healthy to be this way, to lose sleep because of an obsession that dies out so quickly.
I just watched Pride and Prejudice and Mr. Darcy is the epitome of the man I want to marry in the future. I love the idea that two people can hate each other at first and then fall madly in love after they open themselves up to each other. I like guys who I think open themselves up, emotionally, to me because then, I feel special and fall in like with the guy. Too bad that hasn't happened recently because I don't think I've openly liked a guy for over a year. If I don't talk about the guy to my friends obsessively, then the crush quickly dies and I stop talking to the guy.
I looked up the actor that plays Mr. Darcy in P&P, and he looks NOTHING like the character he played in the movie! In the movie, Matthew McFayden had longer hair and this intense, mysterious hottness about him. But in regular pictures, he looks like an average-joe kind of guy that I would never pay attention out in the streets. It's strange because his face shape even looks different in real life photos. o_O I really dig the clothes the men wore in the movie. Well, the young rich men at least; they were hot.
See? Temporarily obsessed. I should finish reading and go to sleep now.
